Preferred Rest Areas On I-5

I've lived in Portland for 10 years now -- originally from NW Washington. Over the past 10 years, I've done a lot of driving up and own I-5. This drive takes on average 4 hours and an "ideal" drive means, NO STOPS. No bathroom breaks, no snack breaks, just drive. However, if I must stop, I use one of my "preferred" rest areas. This map is a list of the rest areas that I like, and the reasons why. Feel free to add to it...

Scatter Creek Rest Area Northbound (MP 90)

This is a good hour and a half into my trip to see my family. This rest area has nice wide open fields -- great for dogs. They offer coffee and cookies for a small donation. The bathrooms are clean and well lit.

Map this on Platial

Sea Tac Rest Area Northbound (MP 140)

There is something about the convenience of Rest Areas... If you're in the car with me, heading up to visit my parents, and you have to pee, you'll more than likely have to wait for a rest area to appear. I find getting off the freeway to find a place to relieve myself is a serious waste of time. This is a "bare-bones" rest stop, but hits my list because it's clean. It also hits my list because it's the last rest area for 67 miles.

Map this on Platial

Silver Lake Rest Area Southbound (MP 188)

This rest area is Southbound. It's only about 45 down I-5 from my folks house - so you'd think it's a little too soon to stop for a break... but since this is the last rest area for 95 MILES (poor planning WSDOT) - I usually end up stopping here as a precaution. God forbid I have to stop somewhere in Seattle to find a restroom!

Another bonus to this one is that there is a small Police Station right there... So it's also SAFE!

Map this on Platial
