Who doesn't know "Dust in the Wind"?

Founded in Topeka, Kansas in about 1970, this prog-rock quintet released its debut in 1974.

Interestingly, an early incarnation of the band was named "Saratoga." Go figure.

Map this on Platial

Punk five-piece Paris Texas are from Madison, Wisconsin. But in a completely unrelated (as far as we know) coincidence, there's also the 1984 movie "Paris, Texas" that has "The Best Small Town in Texas" as its namesake. No word yet on if actual French Parisians have any say on either matter.

Map this on Platial
Despite their name and their geographically-titled album "Trans Canada Highway" experimental chill-out twoism Boards of Canada are actually from the northeast coast of Scotland. Wired's (and the Underwire's) very own Jake Swearingen said it best when describing this band's latest record "Let Me Introduce My Friends":
Yet another geographically misnomered megaband — this one’s a 29-strong squad from Sweden. Their sunny alt-pop debut is a poly-Nordic spree of catchy choruses, palm-searing hand claps, and happy-is-the-hipster lyrics."

Map this on Platial
The band's Web site says they hail from "a conservative-attitudes Scottish town, not a bustling fashion-conscious metropolis like Glasgow." True.
Tokyo Police Club

Seeking directions to Shibuya? Don't ask these four lads. The foursome from Toronto may know how to get you there, but it's doubtful. So where did the name come from? Well, guitarist-percussionist Josh Hook told ourbrisbane.com "We did have a couple of times where we’d turn up and people would be like ‘Oh, you’re not Japanese at all.' There’s not a great explanation to the name. It was a lyric in the song 'Cheer It On', before we even had a name, and then when we were offered to play Pop Montreal. We needed a name, and we thought about how many people were going to be there and that we needed a name that would stand out in a list. So we chose Tokyo Police Club, and now we’re stuck with it, and that’s great!"

Map this on Platial
