Lola European Cafe

There is seating at the bar, around 10 tables, and several leather couches situated in the back. There are high ceilings and unique lighing. One poster described it as having "loft like" feel (see review below). There is also a good sized raised stage & a open floor area in front of it. This will be a venue for live music and other performances. The flyer also says they have nightly live music. One entire side of Lola has windows facing 15th street, and it's a quick jaunt over from the 16th street mall.

Gargoyles on the Square (617) 776-5300

Goargoyle's is a tad spendy, but completely worth it. I particularly am fond of the duck drumsticks and the salmon tartare.

Expert drink mixing. Fantasticly perfect margaritas and martinis. I was there last night and had a luscious Tom Collins.

It's nice to sit at the bar and talk to the people around you. It's really friendly and the music doesn't drown out conversation.

Although there are Guu's on Robson, Guu Otokomae in Gastown has a more open atmosphere and an amazing cocktail selection...more on that later.

You'll find Guu Otokomae on the 2nd floor of its building, down Waterfront St between Steamworks and the steamclock. Guu Otokomae's menu serves homestyle Japanese "tapas" that is inexpensive, simple and tasty, such as yakionigiri (grilled riceballs), gindara (black cod with miso sauce), popeye salad (spinach, bacon, and chock full of veggies), and a poke-style marinated tuna with avocado and mango.

The tapas shouldn't cost any more than $7.20. The cocktail menu is full of interesting things such as Rose Rum (with a base of the house rum where they infuse a real rose in rum), and the Snowflake (vodka, vanilla liquor, lemon, lychee ice balls).
Tags: izakaya, tapas, cocktails, japanese food, vancouver

Map this on Platial

Farm 255 restaurant

        From the Farm 255 website:

"Farm 255 is a restaurant that seeks to reconnect food to its roots & people to their food. We serve local, seasonal, & sustainable food for supper nightly. In addition to the Farm we manage Full Moon Farms, a 7-acre organic/biodynamic farm in Athens. Unlike the owners of any other restaurant we know of, we are the folks sowing turnip seeds in the morning and cooking turnip greens in the evening. We supplement our harvests with those of other local family farmers and ranchers that avoid harmful chemicals and practice sustainable agriculture. Our menu, based on seasonal shifts in the field, changes as often as the weather. Our meat comes from pasture-raised animals & is hormone & antibiotic free. We purchase whole animals & use all the various cuts of meat throughout our menu.

"We are as committed to good community as we are to our cuisine. We have an open kitchen so that dinner is a dialogue, where the farmer-chefs and diner-neighbors can have a meaningful exchange; we offer live music every night in honor of its legacy in this town; and we designed our restaurant with an eye toward the history of the 1930’s building that houses it. For us here at the Farm, eating is a celebration of food’s origins, the paths it travels on the way to our tables, and the lessons learned through the journey."

I added them here because they are participating in an Outstanding in the Field farm dinner on September 10, 2006, in Athens, Georgia.
Tags: organic, sustainable, supports local farms, seasonal menu, biodynamic, live music, athens restaurant, wine list, beer, cocktails

Map this on Platial

Beauty Sleep Inn

Do you like things that sparkle, unicorns, Liberace, music, dancing, crafting, decorating, singing, drinking, cocktail parties, fancy dresses,
disco balls, pictures of fluffy kittens or baby goats, things that plug in and light up, white shag carpet, vintage furniture, vintage jewelry and shoes and dresses?... the list goes on but you get the picture.
The ideal houseguest would be someone just like me. So much like me, in fact, that we could start a girl-gang. That's what Beauty Sleep is essentially all about... a private themed residence where you can feel pretty and safe.
THE PLACE:
Formerly a huge house split up into 4 separate apartments. In the heart of Belmont/Hawthorne district and walking distance to everything. I've converted the main floor into common space that everyone can enjoy. So you get the best of both worlds - privacy, minimal sharing of bathrooms/kitchens, and lots of super-fun common space. A room for your every whim, every inclination. Why not sing, dance, hula-hoop and glue things to other things!
THE ROOMS:
Every bedroom (and there are 4 for rent weekly, monthly,... whatever you desire) has a princess bed of one sort or another. You deserve the canopy bed! One is royal purple, another precious pink, the other ruby red, and then there's sophisticated seafoam. Your room is trimmed in gold with lots of big-eyed pictures and mirrors for you to look at and kiss.
***COMMON SPACE***
Ladie's Lounge, office/craft room, dancefloor with pro effects lights, tiki bar, music room/stage, theater with DLP projector. Space to sip wine and fold origami or knit and talk about boys. A place to hang out while trying on vintage shoes or reading 1950's Family Circle magazines. Do anything your little golden heart desires. Rates vary depending on length of your stay, the room, and other options. Please check the website for updates and tell all your cutie-patootie friends, k? xoxo
Tags: bed and breakfast, event space, pink, princess, unique, kitsch, retro, wine, cocktails, gossip, tiki, private, affordable, boutique inn, retro inn, vintage inn, temporary housing, extended stay, sublet, vacation rental, short term rental, furnished apartments, liberace, theme rooms, sweetheart, glitter, sparkles, unicorn, hula hoop, disco dance, secluded, intimate, anonymous, bb

Map this on Platial
