Part of the vast and esoteric GodSpeedYouBlack Empire, which at its zenith, threatened to swallow up the vast economic and cultural concerns in Montreal's Mile End (traditionally dominated by varying ethnic mafiosos), but now lurks in the shadows, subsisting off of royalty cheques and awaiting the return of droning post-rock and the subsequent cash run-off, Casa Del Popolo remains. By day a cafe serving healthy and cheap eats for bespectacled and bescarved vegetarian youngsters, at night its transformed into a veritable BFA juke-shack, hosting live music (no jam bands, thank God) and a number of DJ nights.

A favourite past-time is patrolling the Books For Prisoners box for inappropriate reading material, such as the stack of Teen Sex Romp novels in there a couple of months back.

Amenities include: two bathrooms, running water, a distroboto machine, pretty pictures on the walls, amiable staff, cheap coffee.
