Description:
Originally discovered in 1902 by Ellis Hughs. The largest meteor ever discovered in the U.S. Hughs, w/ the help of his teenage son & an old horse, physically labored for 3 months to move the 15.5 ton meteorite 3/4 of a mile off property owned by the Oregon Iron & Steel Company to his own land. The con failed and Oregon Iron & Steel took possession of the meteor, displaying at the 1905 Lewis & Clark Expo, then selling it to a Mr. William Dodge for $20,600, who subsequently donated it to the Museum of Natural History in New York, where it remains to this day.
