Description:
"I think that it's time," you said, "past time
that I should be going," you said and then smiled.
My fingers felt for warmth on your beautiful blue lips,
then, when they fell, my eyes remembered
the fever of your smiles.
"What are you thinking now," you said
when I shook my head no, "you mustn't do this
to us" you said. "Don't think of me this way"
you said, as you bent to take my head in your arms.
Your fragile heart filled the close, dark confines of my world.
It raced to muffle your soothing words
and lingered as you retired in tears.
"Goodbye," you said as you went,
and my goodbye would have bounced harmlessly
off the back of a closing door,
so I left the word unspoken,
where it would shiver in my head.
