My best friend and I were on a train in Slovakia, travelling from Stary Smokovec to Kosice. We learned of the attack at our hotel that evening when we accidentally overheard two other Americans discussing it in the elevator. We initially thought they were on drugs. We spent the rest of the evening watching German news and desperately trying to reach our families in the US.
