After a long winter, many competitive eaters are eager to make a pilgrimage to West Palm Beach, FL, for the National Sweet Corn-Eating Championship, sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE).
This year, the event will take place at 1 pm on Sunday, April 30 as part of the Fifth Annual Sweet Corn Fiesta at Yesteryear Village at the South Florida Fairgrounds.
Reigning champion Jammin' Joe LaRue of Hollywood, FL, will defend local honor. Last year, LaRue unseated champ Cookie Jarvis by consuming 31 ears of South Florida sweet corn-on-the-cob in 12 minutes.
Ed "Cookie" Jarvis set the world record of 33½ ears of corn in 12 minutes in 2004.
