Summer 1994—One of the ‘paloozas.

I was right next to the stage so I was happy.

Until my shoes were stomped right off my feet by the crush of the crowd. I was literally picked off the ground as the collective group jumped up and down. I looked down and could see my shoes getting kicked about in the shuffle, but couldn’t reach them. After getting knocked to the ground by some crowd surfer’s* leg, and nearly stomped to death,** I had to say goodbye to my shoes, cut my loses and punch my way out of the massive crowd to the less crazy sidelines.

I had to spend the rest of the day barefoot like some festival hippie.

Boy was I mad. They were my favorite Chuck Taylor low tops, nice and broken in.

They didn’t even smell that bad. Yet.



*Crowd surfing, so very early 90s!

** While I was down there getting dust kicked up in my face there was money swirling all about. Seriously, lost 10s and 20s all over. I could have cleaned up if I wasn’t in danger of loosing a limb.
