Mandy was a girl I met through a mutual friend in May of 2002 shortly after I'd gotten laid off from my job. We seemed to hit it off pretty well, which sucked because I was supposed to leave that summer to go to Russia for two and a half years with the Peace Corps. That assignment eventually got cancelled, so I started looking for jobs, and one of the places I interviewed at was in Birmingham, where Mandy was interning with some law firm. I eventually got the job and moved up here, and she was one of the people I called right after I got settled in. She never called me back.
