If you are in Colorado, you must go to Pikes Peak. Seeing the flora and fauna at 14,000 feet is definately unique to this area. Not to mention the views! Just a word of caution, if you are afraid of heights or small roads, I would take the railway up, the drive is definately an experience (there is a brake check halfway down - that should tell you something). Also remember, even in summer, its cold at 14,000 feet. If you are in the area, you may also want to check out Garden of the Gods (lots of interesting rock formations) and Seven Falls (pretty cheesey waterfall, but great captive trout).
