Amy was a girl I met at the dog park and started talking to because we both had Boston terriers that liked to play together. We went out for a couple months, which broke a long string of bad and/or abortive relationships I'd just gone through, so I was really looking forward to where things were going. But when I got back from a week-long trip to New York and Washington, she seemed kind of distant. I saw her again at the dog park after not having gotten to see her in almost a week and asked if she wanted to do something, and she blew me off pretty quickly; when I got home from the park, I saw that my cell phone had run out of power, so I plugged it in. When it came on and I checked my voice-mail messages, I got one from her basically giving me the heave-ho. Yup, on a voice mail.
