WiMAX Telecom Group believes the technology will be of increasing importance for transmission from all moving vehicles and ships in coastal waters especially. From 40 kilometres (25 miles) off shore, they can be linked via the Internet and hence reachable for sending messages or for VoIP telephony.

With branches in Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia and Croatia, WiMAX Telecom claims to be Europe's only independent, multinational provider of WiMax services.

It holds national licences in Austria and Slovakia, where its active networks already serve several thousand customers, and has licenses in key regions of Croatia, where the company plans to deploy its network at the end of 2006.
