In February 2002, the Korean government allocated 100 MHZ of frequency spectrum at 2.3GHz for Mobile WiBro service. Commercial mobile WiMAX service begins in South Korea, July, 2006, with four areas of Seoul getting coverage first.
LG Electronics will use a Sequans SQN110 chip in its subscriber units. Samsung's dual-mode handset, due the first half of '07, will combine WiMax and GSM while Samsung also has a dual mode WiBro/CDMA phone. Samsung's M8000 and H1000 use a PDA form factor.
SK Telecom and Wavesat, leading developer of WiMAX chipsets, announced today an agreement to cooperate in the development of WiBro/OFDMA technology for next generation mobile devices based on the WiBro 802.16e S-OFDMA profile.
