Description:
IBAX Group plans to use Navini pre-802.16e Ripwave mobile broadband gear to launch and expand municipal and resort networks in Italy, with a view to an eventual national network of metrozones for public administration.
“We are addressing the digital divide issues that exist in Italy,” said Ugo de Fusco, CEO of IBAX. “WiMAX is the answer bringing broadband and new mobile applications to vast areas of the country, not previously possible with ADSL or ISDN.”
This initial order for Navini’s Ripwave MX solution includes 200 dual-mode base stations, which have a software upgrade to 802.16e, the largest MX order to date in Europe. The Ripwave-MX BTS, targeted for 1st half of 2006, will be software upgradeable to 802.16e and will continue to support the Smart Antenna functionality available from Navini today.
Municipal deployments in Italy are planned in hundreds of municipalities, especially those that attract tourists such as Venice and Siena.
